The Don Cornelius Family of Wines Wine Club wine tasting was one of the highlights of the 2016 Soul Train Cruise. Hosted by Tony Cornelius, The Whispers, and Constellation Ship Sommelier, Jasmin Pejicic, the tasting was attended by over 200 guests who tasted 10 wines paired with classic soul food dishes.
Tony formed the Wine Club in 2014 as part of the Don Cornelius Foundation with all proceeds going directly to support the foundation. "Every wine club member becomes one more voice of change, knowing that each purchase goes toward supporting the mission of the Don Cornelius Foundation and the work of healing our families and communities," Cornelius says. The Foundation's mission is to establish programs for awareness, prevention and support for those contemplating suicide or for survivors who have lost loved ones to suicide.
“With the help of Global Wine Company” who distributes the wines, “we will showcase wines from around the globe as well as invite everyone to the table like never before," says Tony Cornelius. "Whether you are 'full of body' or a 'baby-sipper,' the opportunity to introduce all types of wines to the palates of such a diverse audience is enormous. And the opportunity to pair them with classic soul food dishes is unparalleled.”
Those who join the Wine Club will have access to a unique array of tools to help elevate their wine experience in ways never conceived before. To enjoy the wines to their fullest, an exclusively developed Wine & Soul food-pairing guide will assist members in selecting great-tasting wine varietals, matching them with delicious soul food to enhance both.
Newsletters that feature the country's premiere sommeliers and celebrity chefs will provide style tips and creative points of view directly to the members. There are also exclusive wine discount programs and invitations to celebrity-guest wine tastings, much like the one Tony Hosted with the Whispers.
The Don Cornelius Foundation is the official charity of the Soul Train Cruise. The two organizations work closely together to honor "Soul Train's" place in popular culture and continue Don Cornelius' tremendous legacy.
