What Do Soul Train Artists Do For Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and whether you go over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house, or stay close to home and roast chestnuts over an open fire, we hope you have an amazing holiday with your friends and loved ones. We can’t wait to see you all aboard the 2015 cruise.

Ever wonder how your favorite Soul Train Cruise superstars spend their Thanksgiving? Well, we did, too, and dug up a few answers for you!

  • Frankie Beverly and Maze will be performing at the 7th Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Festival on Nov. 22 at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi (along with former Soul Train Cruise performers The Isley Brothers).
  • If you live near one of Gladys Knight’s Signature Chicken and Waffles restaurant, be sure to order up one of her world-famous sweet potato cheesecake pies to bring to Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Valerie Simpson once spent Thanksgiving with husband Nick Ashford at poet Maya Angelou’s home. After dinner, Valerie played the piano and Maya began singing. They had so much fun that the trio later recorded “Been Found,” released in 1996.
  • Both Gladys Knight and KC & The Sunshine Band have spent their holiday atop a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float.
  • Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes have been known to entertain their fans on Thanksgiving, too. Back in 2012, they held a Thanksgiving Soul Jam in Albany, New York, with Evelyn “Champagne” King and The Delfonics.
  • And comedian Alonzo Bodden actually once spent Thanksgiving aboard a cruise!
